“Every Day Is Significant – There Are No Wasted Days”
The 2nd Day of Advent
December 1, 2025
“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law” (Galatians 4.4).
This verse reminds us that every day is essential to God. “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son.” I think of all those days, weeks, months, years, and centuries from the Old Testament to the New Testament. God was in every one of them counting them one by one until the appointed day arrived. Although He is timeless and eternal, He made every day, He made every person in those days, and He nurtures us and His plan through every one of those days. Galatians 4.4 teaches me that when the exact appointed day came, He sent the angel of the Lord to Zacharias and then the angel Gabriel to announce the birth of His Son to Mary.
Mary discovered that every day and every generation is a link in the chain of God’s daily purposes and faithfulness to us. O God, help us to discover the freshness of Your presence and purposes every day. When God brought Vicki into my life, every day changed thereafter. When those 3 little people God entrusted to us were born into our lives, every day changed. On the days that our two daughters were given in marriage to two godly men, everything changed. When our 6 grandchildren were born, they were reminders again that every day is a gift of God. When challenges, disappointments, and hardships face us, God is working through them every day of our lives. When we discovered our son’s challenge with alcoholism this past May, everything changed. From the day of our birth through the day of our death every day is eternally valuable and purposeful.
Think of it this way. Since April 29, 1949, I have lived approximately 27,740 days. God has been working in very one of those days. Every day has been a link in the chain of God’s faithfulness to me.
We may often feel as if we didn’t accomplish anything today. We may feel that our lives are a mess and we make little or no contribution to the work of God. We may even wonder if God has forgotten us.
This is precisely why the psalmist cries out, “This is the day that the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118.24). God is at work today.
Every day is significant – there are no wasted days. We will celebrate the birth of Christ in 23 more days. This is the story of Christmas. This truth is today’s reminder of Advent.
